Increased settlement from $60k to $700k

Background

A beautiful cottage experienced damage during a Spring 2022 windstorm. A pine tree fell on the roof which led to water damage and mold, and remediation by the insurance company was being delayed. The client took it upon themselves to temporarily patch the roof, remove the contents and had to rent another home to live in until the damage was fixed. After a few months, the insurance company made an offer for $60k which was not suitable for the client, so they hired us.

How We Helped

We took on the case and found there to be extensive damage far beyond what the insurance company had scoped out in their offer, including damage to the foundation. We helped the client negotiate living expenses paid out while the cottage was being repaired and built out the scope of the claim to include all damage that was incurred in the loss.

Outcome

The claim has been valued with a final settlement value of $700,000, more than 10x what the insurance company initially offered the client.

Increased settlement from $950k to $2.6M

Background

A multimillion-dollar home in an upper-scale neighbourhood in Toronto experienced a significant fire in early 2022. The insurance company offered a settlement after 6 months for $950,000.

How We Helped

We took on the case on and worked with structural and environmental engineers and contractors to build the settlement. The insurance company missed many elements that we were able to increase the scope, which greatly increased the settlement value. We also helped negotiate living expenses and other expenses that were incurred due to this loss.

Outcome

The final scope of the settlement for the building is $2.6M, an increase in $1.65M over the initial offer from the insurance company.

Increased settlement from $60k to $270k

Background

A multi-million dollar cottage on the lake was damaged in a windstorm in Spring 2022. Damage included a tree on the cottage roof, tree on the coach house and damage to the docks and boat system. After 6 weeks of having to clean up on their own with no response from their insurance company, the client hired us. The client estimated the claim was worth $60k.

How We Helped

We took on the case and worked with a structural engineer who assisted us in determining there was extensive damage to the cottage. We also found there was much more extensive damage to the docks and boat system. Upon further inspection, they needed to be completely replaced.

Outcome

The claim was closed with a final settlement value of $270,000, 4.5x what the client initially thought the claim would be worth.
